Alfred E. Plant

West Hartford Housing Authority manages the A.E. Plant building, which is owned by a subsidiary of the Trout Brook Realty Advisors.  The original 95 units are comprised of mostly one-bedroom apartments. The A.E. Plant building is currently undergoing modernization to add an additional 42 units and an upgrade of the common areas on the property.  The project began in the fall 2010 and was completed in March 2012.

The Alfred E. Plant Building is located at 759 Farmington Avenue in West Hartford. Blue Back Square is less than one mile from the A.E. Plant building and many additional retail shops are within walking distance. CT Transit bus stop #276 is located in front of the property, providing many residents with bus service along a major bus route.

Amenities for the A.E. Plant building include:

  • An outdoor seating area with gardens and walkways
  • Onsite Parking
  • Multiple Elevators
  • Onsite Laundry Facilities
  • Community Center
  • Card Room
  • Resident Lounges with Computers and TVs
  • Digital climate controls in each unit
  • 24-hour onsite maintenance personnel
  • Some units are ADA-compliant

The community room serves several functions for our residents. This furnished room attracts residents who seek interaction in the form of conversation, a chess game, bingo, or potluck suppers. Residents are also welcome to browse the shelves of books. The building is quite active during the day as service providers come to care for the residents and third-party shuttles come to pick up residents for off-site services.

The onsite management office consists of a full-time Property Manager, a Resident Services Coordinator, as well as full-time maintenance personnel. The Resident Services Coordinator provides:

  • Information and referrals,
  • Assistance in linking clients to programs, and
  • Coordinates onsite resident activities.

The West Hartford Housing Authority leases fully-renovated space within the A.E. Plant building to the Whiting Lane Extended Day Care, which provides before and after-school care for children aged five through eleven.
